eeeek - I signed up for the NYC Marathon. I think I may have to file this one under ‘things that seemed like a good idea at the highly caffeinated time’. Of course, I won’t find out until June if I get accepted or not so I guess I just have to assume acceptance and start with training.
The last time I trained for a marathon, I remember being almost constantly tired, cranky and achy BUT I did get to eat burgers for breakfast, pizza for lunch and ice cream for dinner without gaining any weight, so there is the good side of it.

I was just comparing the New Orleans half marathon to the last 2 halfs that I ran (in September and October of 2007) and goshdurnit, I’m proud of myself!
- New Orleans half marathon (yesterday) took me 2 hours and 41 minutes
- Nike half marathon (October of 2007) took me 3 hours and 11 minutes - damn hills
- Toronto half marathon (September of 2007) took me 3 hours and 2 minutes
I guess my next goal is to do a half in 2.5 hours or less since I finally hit my 3 hours or less goal. What you say James Brown?? I feel good…..hey! (picture crazy shuffling dancing here)

I didn’t notice until today when I was printing out race info for Sunday that New Orleans is one of the races that enforces the ban on headphones. That’s really depressing…
I rarely, if ever, run without music (the sound of my own breathing annoys me, plus there’s something about that Destiny’s Child song ‘Survivor’ that really gives me a kick in the butt when I’m ready to stop), so I’m not really sure how that’s gonna work out for me.
I also have the Nike+ thingummybob and I enjoy having the ipod lady (as I call her) tell me how many miles I’ve covered, although she does lie sometimes.
Well, I guess that’ll teach me to read rules more closely before I decide on destination races…sigh.

I missed my long run on Sunday - unfortunately, I did a bit TOO much early birthday celebrating Saturday night and ended up spending a good portion of Sunday alternately curled into a limp washrag of a ball or curled around my toilet - so today and possibly tomorrow or Friday will be the last runs I get in before leaving for New Orleans. At this point, if I’m not prepared for 13.1 miles, nothing between now and Sunday will help, so…wish me luck!
PS - Wish me happy birthday too…my 31st birthday is this Saturday

Sigh…yesterday was the scene of the biggest loss my willpower has suffered in quite some time. I had actually forgotten that it was Subsidize Hallmark Day. Until I got to work, of course. Just after lunch, my boss approached my desk and offered a huge chocolate bar as a gift, informing me at the same time that this was “the best chocolate EVER”. I thought I’d take a small obvious nibble to thank him for thinking of me and then throw the rest away when his back was turned (as I’ve done not too often in the past with many of the transfatty gifts he offers me). Alack alack alas, it really was the best chocolate ever and I ate the whole thing. Ok, maybe it was just the first bite of chocolate I had in a month and not so much the best chocolate EVER, but I chalked it up to serendipity and just resolved to run an extra mile or something.
Later on that day (dun, dun, dun), I went into the kitchen to get some water, only to find that someone had bought a HUGE box of Godiva chocolates for the office as a gift. Now, when I say huge, I mean 5 or 6 layers of 40 chocolates per layer just chock full of plain chocolate, dark chocolate, milk chocolate, white chocolate, truffles, hazelnuts, pureed chocolate stuffed with chocolate with a chocolate glaze and chocolate detailing down the side, lions and tigers and bears oh my! Sadly, this particular story ended with a severely nauseous me planted next to the box, 2 chocolates in my mouth, 6 melting in my hand, calling for the Lord or a co-worker or someone to come save me from myself.
And the worst part is that there are still about 2 layers left in the kitchen and they’ve been taunting me all morning. Really - right now the dark chocolate is singing ‘Don’t You Want Me’ by Jody Watley and the milk chocolate is singing ‘Don’t You Want Me Baby’ by whoever. (You know, that ‘you were working as a waitress in a cocktail bar’ song). Make it stop, make it stop! All I can say is thank god for the 10 mile run I have to do tomorrow…

I meant to run 5 miles…but I just got so damn bored on the treadmill! Plus, the TV directly in front of me was playing some sort of MTV ‘I want to be a porn star cheerleader’ (as if the two are mutually exclusive) reality show and it was making my eyeballs bleed, so I decided to switch gears and do some weights for a change.
It felt really good to hit the machines and do my inflexible version of a squat and brandish the 20 pound dumbbells, all while grunting and groaning like a Williams sister at Wimbledon…at least, it was all great until it came time to leave.
My gym is on the second floor and, as I headed down, my legs wobbled a bit and then promptly gave out underneath me and I fell headfirst down the stairs. My overstuffed gym bag saved the day by cushioning my big, fat head. Still, thank goodness the snow and ice are finally gone so I can return to the comparatively safe streets of Brooklyn.

I’m a woman from Brooklyn New York US, born in 1977. I HATE running…but I do it anyway because it makes me feel good. And because I don’t like buying larger clothing.
This is my training blog which I am using to keep track of my progress towards various races this year including New Orleans Half Marathon and possibly (unless I come to my senses or don’t get picked) the NYC Marathon.
Please come by and read my blog. Feel free to offer any constructive (meaning non-mean and nasty) criticism you like! It will help me stay motivated and keep me on track as I achieve my fitness goals!

I guess you’ll have to be until the friggin *&%$ (^!!! snow and ice clear up! No running in snow for me, especially not after the last time I tried it (it involved a 3 foot skid, a delivery truck and a death scare).
I hate running. Really, I absolutely, positively, without possibility of error hate running. And I especially loathe running when its on a boring treadmill. Makes me feel like i’m in jail in a Dickens novel.
But I do enjoy going to my ghetto gym and seeing the woman next to me on the treadmill walk at a pace of oh, let’s just optimistically call it 2 miles an hour - all while hanging on to the treadmill for dear life, reading a magazine, eating a Snicker’s bar AND chatting to the woman on the other side of her about how many calories she’s burning. Gotta take your amusement where you can get it, right?
